Everybody is jumping on the “Go Green” band wagon. Saving the environment and eating organic foods has become more than a trend, it is a lifestyle. If people are caring about the natural substances in what they consume and use, then why not “Go Green” when caring for man’s best friend?
The 2007 pet food recall has caused cautious owners to become mindful of the food they buy for their dog. However, the food that is bought in stores contains highly processed ingredients. In order to keep your dog’s diet natural without buying him raw chicken and vegetables, try reading the dog food bags and choose the bag with the most foods that have simple ingredients.
If Fido would rather have his meats and veggies, then give him what he wants! Whole grains, fresh meats, and vegetables are a healthy balanced diet for many types of dogs. I feed my dogs corn and green beans to help maintain their shiny coat. Another way to give your dog’s coat a healthy shine without the natural foods is to bath them in botanical-based soaps. These natural based soaps do not strip your dog’s skin of its natural oils, but also soothes itchy skin and adds moisture to dry, flaky skin.
Remember that natural is not always the best way to go for your dog. Make sure that you speak to your vet about changing a dog’s diet before doing so.
