Great Dane Rescue Inc’s Adopter and Adoptee of the Month:
My husband and I adopted Sheera, a black and white female Dane last year
around this time. We had already owned a Great Dane named Diesel and a
lab/cattle-dog mix named Max. Both of our dogs were rescued animals; Max
was found as a puppy alongside of an expressway and Diesel was found in the
parking lot where my husband works all cut up and in rough shape. Both dogs
have been wonderful pets, so when we had to get Diesel put to sleep due to a
brain tumor we knew we wanted to rescue another dog. My sister's husband
knew how much we loved our Great Dane and found the Great Dane Rescue for us
on-line. There, we saw a picture of Sheera, and knew we wanted to bring her
home.
I was very impressed with the process the Great Dane Rescue has in place to
ensure that people who adopt an animal from them understand the breed they're
bringing into their house and will care for the dog in a responsible manner.
Having owned a Great Dane before, we knew what we were getting into!! Max
is glad to have his 'big sister' Sheera in our home, and she's helped him
and us heal from the loss of Diesel. Her favorite thing to do is lay her
head in your lap when you sit down...she is a huge baby! She loves to go for
walks in the woods behind us and she's finally learning to play ball with
us, which is huge because she was so very shy and frightened of everything
when we first brought her home.
This has definitely been a positive
experience for us, and we wouldn't hesitate to welcome another Great Dane
from the Rescue into our home in the future!!
